As the energy transition is picking up pace, hydrogen is expected to play an essential role in the electrification of new applications, and green ammonia is necessary for the emerging hydrogen economy. The hydrogen economy is expected to grow tremendously around the globe in the coming decade.
As an example, the European Commission aims to make the EU a leader in the use of hydrogen and green ammonia. The EU has set the strategic objective to install at least 40 GW of renewable hydrogen electrolysers by 2030. Similar growth targets, including the explicit mention of ammonia, are now introduced on a weekly basis around the world.
Ammonia is often considered the ‘alternative hydrogen’ fuel and is anticipated to play a significant role as we move towards zero-carbon. Green ammonia can be made clean and sustainable and can be used for transport, heating, energy storage, and all sorts of energy use.
